Counselors

Our ideal candidates are at least 15 years of age and have sailing experience and/or teaching experience. Those who have worked at sailing camps in the past or have been a CIT with our camp, are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates should have sailing experience, enjoy working with young children, and have a friendly and positive demeanor. Experience on a variety of vessels and motorboat experience is ideal, but we will provide training as necessary. Camp counselors will be expected to arrive on time and assist with set-up each day and tear-down at the end of each day. During the day, they may be teaching campers in a sailboat, driving the safety boat, in a rowboat providing instruction, or on shore.

New counselors often work half-days either from 8:30-12:30 or 12:30-4:30. They may only end up working a few weeks through the summer or most of the weeks depending on the number of campers. Hours would be Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm for full-day work. Returning and senior counselors get priority for hours.

Working as a Camp Counselor is a great way to build and improve sailing skills, gain valuable employment and leadership experience, work with kids, be outdoors, make friends and have fun! This is also a good stepping stone to teach adult lessons at our class locations around the metro.

Counselors in Training

We are looking for new Counselors in Training for the 2025 season!

This program is ideal for children ages 13-15 who have some sailing experience and especially good for those who have attended our or other youth sailing camps in the past. The Counselors in Training (CITs) will receive some more involved training from our senior counselors in order to hone their sailing skills and will learn strategies to teach others how to sail. Some of their time will be spent learning from the counselors, and some of their time they will be paired up with campers to help them learn how to sail. Because they will be expected to help other campers and be somewhat involved with the set-up and tear-down of camp each day, the price for this program is significantly reduced from that of a camper. It is preferred that the CIT enroll in full-day sessions, however we do offer half-day sessions at the same price.

This is a great program for children who have enjoyed sailing in the past, want to be outdoors, make friends and have fun! Also a great way to become a paid counselor in the future!
